The WHITE SEABREAM has a silver coloured
oval body with nine vertical black bands and a
characteristic black spot near the tail fin.
It is found in the Northeast Atlantic, Madeira
Islands and the Mediterranean, where it inhabits
estuaries as a juvenile and depths down to 150 m
as adult. It feeds mainly at night on molluscs,
crustaceans, sea urchins and seaweed it finds
on the bottom. Spawning occurs in late winter
and early spring, when they form large schools.
It is fished with trawls and gillnets.

The white seabream has a powerful
set of teeth with multiple sets of front teeth
and molars in both jaws, which allow it to crush
crustaceans and molluscs on which it feeds.
