Ciência Viva Grants for the EMME Summer School 2025

Ciência Viva, co-organiser and host of the EMME Summer School 2025, is offering 3 partial grants to boost participation from the NAMES network members and the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions.

Ciência Viva will cover the fee and accommodation of eligible nominees selected by NAMES and Ciência Viva. The accommodation will be booked directly by Ciência Viva and there will be no transfer made to the participants.

 

Nomination Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a completed grant application formby no later than 3 July 2025, providing:

  • An updated Curriculum Vitae ( CV );
  • A detailed Statement of Motivation and Impact, including a clear justification for grant funding;
  • A letter of support from the nominating organization, explicitly:
    • Addressing the need for financial assistance;
    • Committing to refund Ciência Viva for any expenses paid in case the applicant is approved but does not actually attend the EMME Summer School without notification by no later than 31 August.

 

Nominees Criteria

  • Membership Status: Priority will be given to intermediate-profile staff currently employed at NAMES Member Institutions, particularly those from institutions with limited financial resources.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in science engagement.
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Motivation
  • Current Role and Responsibilities:
    • Nominees should currently hold positions that directly involve science engagement, or the development and management of activities relevant to science engagement.
    • Responsibilities should indicate a level of engagement where the knowledge and skills gained can be readily applied and disseminated within their organization.
  • Demonstrated Leadership Potential: This could be evidenced by initiative-taking, problem-solving, and the ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Commitment to Knowledge Sharing: They should express a clear commitment to sharing the knowledge and best practices gained during EMME with their colleagues, through presentations or workshops.
  • Justification for Grant Funding: Nominees must clearly articulate their need for financial assistance to attend the EMME Summer School. This justification should provide context regarding their organization's or their own limited financial resources and explain why the grant is essential for their participation.
  • Nominees to provide a Statement of Motivation and Impact highlighting:
    • How their participation will significantly benefit their professional development and their organization;
    • Specific ways they intend to apply the knowledge and skills gained to enhance science engagement within their context;
    • The potential for broader impact within their community.
