Professional Development
in museum and science centres
The International Professional Development Program is aimed at professionals from museums and science centers and to those who work in the science education field who privilege the contact with the scientific community and the public.
These are short internships of active professional immersion at the Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva Center in Lisbon, sharing knowledge and practices.
Who?
Museum and Science Centers professionals, science educators, science managers, researchers and other related areas categorized in two levels:

Junior professionals ⁄ educators ⁄ researchers;

Senior professionals ⁄ science managers ⁄ researchers.
What we offer
We believe that learning is promoted by relationships supported by open educational models. Our host Programme is therefore tailored for the specific needs of each professional, with a high degree of flexibility.
The International programmes are designed to provide insight into the work of a professional science museum environment, deepening the understanding of museum operations, enhancing cross-cultural collaboration and developing skills essential for careers in science education and communication and public engagement.
Programme at a glance
Guided visit to the science center facilities;
Meeting with members of the board of directors at Ciência Viva;
Ciência Viva Networks;
Science communication/education best practices;
Shadowing science center educators or other staff;
Production of science exhibitions;
Presentation and discussion on the applicant´s work;
Visit to other science centers of the Ciência Viva network.

What we expect from you
Availability to share your knowledge and expertise. Report on your experience at Ciência Viva after the International Programme (up to 10 000 words or other formats).

How to apply
Motivation letter to Ciência Viva on your expectations and professional development needs. Support letter from your institution or supervisor. Share a sample of content, portfolio, activities or projects you are involved with.
Email to internship@cienciaviva.pt with the referred documents attached.

Terms and Conditions
Details and participation fees will be sent after the confirmation from the applicant. The applying professional will compromise to mention Ciência Viva in all academic and scientific work that makes use of any data or knowledge acquired during the internship.
