Centro Ciência Viva do Alviela - Carsoscópio

Located next to Portugal´s largest karst spring, the Alviela spring, and surrounded by a vast natural heritage, the Alviela - Carsoscópio Centro Ciência Viva focuses its main exhibition on bats, karst, and water. Travel through the Estremenho Limestone Massif over 175 million years, unravel the 3D underground paths of water or ´stick´ to the skin of a bat. Inaugurated on December 15, 2007, this center was developed with the aim of valuing the immense heritage of the Alviela river spring and its surrounding area, functioning at the same time as a strategic resource for scientific dissemination and environmental education. Scientific walks, science cafes, and Bat Night are some of the activities of this center that introduce visitors to one of the most important karst regions in the country: the Estremenho Limestone Massif.
