Centro Ciência Viva da Floresta - Proença-a-Nova

Located in the area of Pinhal Interior Sul, in the district of Castelo Branco, the theme of this Centro Ciência Viva (Science Center) could only be that of the Forest, given the forest density of the municipality: 80.7%, corresponding to an area of 319.2 km2. The building was inspired by the cross-section of a pine tree, so all its spaces respect the circular shape. It is surrounded by an arboretum where there is a circuit called the Forest of Science, which allows contact with nature through the exploration of various scientific modules. The idea of the forest as a source of knowledge is the main objective of this center. The experimental activities and exhibitions developed emphasize the need for continuous updating of scientific and technological knowledge for effective environmental management. Discovering the contribution of the forest to maintaining air quality and the global balance of the atmosphere, observing forest fires and measures for their prevention, and learning about the water cycle and its relationship with soil protection and erosion are some of the discoveries of the visit to the permanent exhibition. Inaugurated on July 21, 2007, the Centro Ciência Viva da Floresta offers its visitors thematic workshops, science cafes, training courses, conferences, and forest stories in its regular program.
