Get ready to embark on a journey of discovery through the Universe. In an immersive environment of film, image and sound, where a hemispherical dome is both our ceiling and projection screen, the cosmos takes center stage. Moons, planets, stars and galaxies, asteroids and comets, gigantic interstellar clouds, astronomical distances and time intervals, celestial movements, the night sky, life in a cosmic context... Astronomy in all its aspects is on display in this Planetarium, open to the public since November 23rd 1998, and whose building is shared with the Center for Astrophysics of the University of Porto. This Science Center aims to develop scientific research and support for teaching Astronomy, promote scientific culture among the population, and provide motivation for young people to pursue scientific careers. Planetarium sessions, educational workshops, astronomical observations, temporary exhibitions, and lectures led by astronomers are all part of its regular programming.
