Oficinas de Criatividade Himalaya - Centro Ciência Viva dos Arcos

The Arcos Science Center - Himalaya Creativity Workshops joined the Science Centers Network on July 11, 2022. It is a space dedicated to the figure and legacy of one of the greatest Portuguese scientists and visionaries of the turn of the 19th century, known as Padre Himalaya, born in Arcos de Valdevez. It is a platform for promoting science and the multiple areas of knowledge covered by the researcher, such as ecology and sustainability, with families, young people, and the school community as its main target audience. The exceptional journey of this man is the basis for the project´s development, which incorporates the ´Himalaya Interpretive Center´, a documentary and biographical space that uses state-of-the-art technological and informational speeches, as well as various rooms and spaces dedicated to science and pedagogy, such as the ´Ecocitizenship Center´ and the ´Himalaya Labyrinth´, dedicated to the universal figure of the scientist. In the outdoor space, we can find a life-size replica of the Pirelióforo, the solar machine presented by Himalaya at the 1904 St. Louis World_s Fair.
